AUD Sinks Below 0.7000 Amid RBA Rate Hike Uncertainty
The Australian Dollar has slipped back below 0.7000 against the US Dollar after the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) implemented its fourth rate hike this year to 4.60%. This move was intended to tackle persistent inflation, but Governor Bullock's cautious remarks on whether policy is restrictive enough have tempered expectations for further tightening and weighed on AUD.
The RBA reiterated its commitment to bringing inflation sustainably back to target, including increasing the cash rate target further if needed. However, Governor Bullock expressed uncertainty about whether four hikes are sufficient to slow inflation.
The Australian Dollar is currently testing important levels near 0.7030, which is also close to the 200-day moving average. This has raised concerns among market participants that the currency may struggle to recover in the short term.
