AUD Slides as Business Optimism Index Dips
The Australian dollar saw some volatility in recent days, influenced by various economic indicators and statements from key officials. The Small Business Optimism Index for August was reported at 98.7, a decline of 1.1 points from July's level.
According to Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) Assistant Governor Luci Ellis, the index remains above its 52-year average of 98.0. However, two components increased, while six decreased, and two remained unchanged.
The RBA's Hauser stated that they have not reached a point where sharp rate hikes are necessary. Meanwhile, Hunter noted that the housing market is a crucial mechanism for monetary policy to affect the economy.
The Westpac, Melbourne Institute Consumer Sentiment Index declined 5.2% to 84.4 in September from 88.9 in August, driven by fuel prices and interest rates.
