AUD Surges Against JPY as BoJ Rate Hike Disappoints Hawks
The Australian Dollar surged against the Japanese Yen on Friday, reaching 112.60 and increasing by 1.54% in a day.
This unexpected move came despite the Bank of Japan's decision to raise its policy rate by 25 basis points to 1.25%, which was widely expected.
However, investors seemed unimpressed with the BoJ's communication, perceiving it as not hawkish enough to justify further aggressive monetary tightening.
The Japanese central bank acknowledged several risks, including developments in the Middle East and volatility in foreign exchange markets, but emphasized its commitment to raising interest rates if necessary.
In contrast, the Reserve Bank of Australia's hawkish stance on inflation remains unchanged, with Governor Michele Bullock warning that prices remain 'too high' and further rate hikes may be necessary.
