AUD Surges Against JPY as RBA Hike Bets Intensify
The Australian Dollar has strengthened against the Japanese Yen on expectations of another interest rate hike by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) next week.
Investors believe that the RBA will increase its Official Cash Rate (OCR) to combat inflationary pressures, which have been rising due to persistent economic growth.
RBA Governor Michele Bullock's comments last week reinforced this view, warning that inflation risks remain tilted to the upside and that the key question is whether the monetary tightening delivered so far will be sufficient to return inflation to target within a reasonable timeframe.
The Australian Dollar has advanced against the Japanese Yen, with AUD/JPY trading around 112.10 at the time of writing, up 0.32% on the day.
Meanwhile, the Japanese Yen remains under pressure following the Bank of Japan's (BoJ) cautious signals about monetary tightening, with BoJ Governor Kazuo Ueda leaving the door open to further rate hikes if economic activity and prices evolve in line with expectations.
