AUD Surges to Three-Month High on Resilient Spending, Hawkish Fed Comments
The Australian Dollar (AUD) has reached its highest level in three months, trading at 0.7198 against the US Dollar (USD). Despite a steady USD due to solid jobs data and hawkish comments from Federal Reserve officials, the AUD/USD pair surged by 0.34% on Thursday.
The gain can be attributed to resilient spending in Australia, as household spending rose by 1.1% in July, according to recent data. This suggests that consumer demand remains strong, putting upward pressure on inflation.
Market participants are now focused on Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium on Friday, which could provide further insight into interest rate decisions.
