AUD Tumbles as Fed Hawkishness and Weak Aussie Data Weigh on Dollar
The Australian dollar (AUD) fell by 0.51% on September 23, reaching a price of $0.70774. This decline was largely driven by the strong US dollar, which is being fueled by expectations of further interest rate hikes from the Federal Reserve.
Elevated US Treasury yields, coupled with persistent inflation concerns and resilient economic activity, have led to increased demand for the greenback. Hawkish comments from Fed officials have reinforced these expectations, widening yield differentials against major peers and putting pressure on risk-sensitive currencies like the AUD.
Australia's flash purchasing managers index data also revealed a contraction in manufacturing output and a slowdown in services activity, adding to concerns over domestic economic conditions.
