AUD Tumbles Below 0.7000 Amid RBA Dovish Hints and Fed Mixed Messages
The Australian dollar plummeted below 0.7000 against the US dollar on Tuesday as the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) hinted at a dovish policy tilt and the Federal Reserve delivered mixed messaging.
The AUD/USD exchange rate fell by more than 0.40% to 0.6987, with the RBA increasing its cash rate to 4.60%. However, market analysts interpreted this move as mildly dovish, leading to a decline in the Australian dollar's value.
The Federal Reserve's messaging was also mixed, with New York Fed President John Williams stating that there was no rush to raise rates, while Governor Michael Barr said policy needs recalibration and further hikes are likely. This conflicting information contributed to a softer US risk sentiment, resulting in lower Wall Street closing prices.
