AUD/USD Plummets Amid Hawkish Repricing Unwind
The AUD/USD pair has been plummeting this week due to an unwinding of hawkish Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) pricing following Tuesday's interest rate decision. Softer economic data released around the same time has also contributed to the decline, while higher US Treasury yields have sent the dollar surging.
This has resulted in fresh multi-month lows for the AUD/USD pair. The source of these factors is clear: after the RBA's decision, traders began to reprice their expectations for future interest rates lower. Simultaneously, softer economic data on either side of the decision further undermined the Australian dollar.
The US dollar, on the other hand, has continued to benefit from higher Treasury yields. As a result, the AUD/USD pair has been hammered lower, reaching new lows not seen in months.
