AUD/USD Traders Eye RBA Decision Amid Neutral Price Action
The Australian dollar's price action against the US dollar has been relatively neutral in recent trading sessions, with moves of around 0.2% over the last two sessions without establishing a clear direction.
This lack of momentum is largely due to expectations surrounding the next policy moves from both the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) and the Federal Reserve.
The RBA's decision on September 29 is expected to bring another interest rate increase, with implied probabilities showing more than a 90% chance of such an outcome. Investors are pricing in a move from 4.35% to 4.60%.
However, the decision itself may not be as important as the message accompanying it, particularly regarding the future path of monetary policy. Inflation remains the key variable, with Australia's latest inflation figures showing a gradual slowdown but still above the central bank's target.
The release of August inflation figures later this week is expected to show a rebound toward 4.1%, which could reinforce the view that inflation pressures remain persistent and restrictive monetary policy may need to stay in place for longer.
