AUDUSD Plummets Below 0.6965 After Australia's Soft CPI Data
Australia's Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for August revealed inflation rose 4.0% year-over-year, falling short of the forecasted 4.1%. Monthly CPI increased by 0.4%, also missing expectations of a 0.5% gain.
The AUDUSD fell below 0.6965 after the release of the data, with sellers pushing the pair toward 0.6950. This decline indicates that traders are interpreting the inflation data as dovish, implying reduced expectations for further interest rate hikes by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA).
Given this context, market analysts believe that AUDUSD could face further pressure if weak Australian inflation data continues to reduce expectations for additional RBA tightening. On the other hand, a recovery in the pair might be seen if upcoming economic indicators show stronger growth momentum or global risk sentiment improves.
