The latest employment data from the US has shown some positive signs, but also some red flags. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nonfarm payroll employment added 162,000 jobs in August, exceeding expectations of a 55,000 job gain.

This increase brings the total number of unemployed individuals down slightly, with the unemployment rate remaining at 4.1% and the U6 unemployment rate dropping to 7.7%. The population-adjusted nonfarm employment has also improved, reaching 93.70%.

While these numbers may seem encouraging, it's essential to note that official recession calls are typically made by the NBER Business Cycle Dating Committee. This committee does not disclose specific indicators used in its decision-making process.
