Australia Commits to Decade-Long Support for Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict with Russia
Australia has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ukraine in its ongoing conflict against Russia. On September 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese signed a 10-year security agreement during the U.N. General Assembly in New York. The agreement highlights cooperation between the two countries on various fronts, including bolstering Kyiv's naval capacity, protecting critical energy infrastructure, and promoting democratic reforms.
The deal also includes a 60 million Australian dollar ($42.2 million) support package for Ukraine, with 75% of the funds allocated towards Australian Defense Force equipment. The remaining portion will be split between Ukraine's Energy Support Fund and humanitarian assistance.
Australia has also imposed 106 new sanctions listings on Russia, targeting various entities and individuals involved in brainwashing and militarizing children. This includes organizations such as the Kadyrov Foundation and the Center for Military Sports Training and Patriotic Education of Youth.
