Australia Inflation Rate Cooling Sparks Lower Interest Rate Hike Expectations
Australia's inflation rate has cooled down significantly, leading to lower expectations for further interest rate hikes by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA). The trimmed mean consumer price index rose by only 0.2% month-over-month in August, down from 0.5% in July.
This trend is significant as it reduces the likelihood of further interest rate hikes by the RBA, which has already raised rates four times this year.
The current market pricing indicates a mere 28% chance of a rate hike at the RBA's November meeting, down from 40% prior to the data release.
