Australian Auction Market Hits Three-Month Low Amid Rising Interest Rates
Australia's capital city auction market has hit its lowest clearance rate in three months, according to recent data. Last week, just 48.2% of homes sold at auction, down from a year earlier and marking the second-weakest result this year.
The preliminary clearance rate of 48.2% was recorded across 1,223 auctions nationwide, representing a 12.8% decrease from the previous week and a significant drop from the same period in 2025.
While public holidays and lower market activity contributed to the decline, experts point to higher borrowing costs and the Reserve Bank of Australia's interest rate hikes as key factors driving the slowdown.
