Australian Import Prices Soar 5.7% in June Quarter Amid Global Supply Disruptions
Australia's import prices surged by 5.7% in the June quarter of 2026, marking the largest quarterly increase since December 2021.
The upward pressure on the Australian dollar and intensified global inflation concerns were driven by supply route disruptions affecting oil, fertiliser, and plastics.
Petroleum prices skyrocketed by 47.1% during the three-month period, while fertiliser prices rose by 25.1%, and primary plastics increased by 26.3%.
However, non-monetary gold export and import prices declined by 9.1% as investors shifted towards interest-bearing assets.
