Australian Job Ads Edge Up in July Amid Resilient Labour Market

The number of Australian job advertisements rose in July, according to private-sector data from Australia and New Zealand Banking Group and employment website Indeed. The 0.8% month-over-month increase offset a small fall in June.

The labour market has remained resilient despite higher borrowing costs, with the economy creating 76,300 net jobs in June and the unemployment rate holding steady at 4.4%. The Reserve Bank of Australia has raised interest rates three times this year to combat inflation.

The gain was broad-based, led by management and physician & surgeon opportunities. These two occupations, along with nursing, have been the fastest-growing roles over the past year, with job ads up 2.1% from July last year and remaining 16.2% above their decade-long averages.
