Australian Share Fund IOZ Falls Amid Sector Splits
The iShares broad Australian share index fund (ASX:IOZ) has edged lower alongside a market that has now closed weaker for another consecutive session. The fund's basket is dominated by major lenders and large diversified miners, both of which struggled through the afternoon, leaving the vehicle with little to lean on beyond a firmer healthcare bench.
The concentration in miners and lenders left the fund carrying the full force of the sector split. Basic materials led the decline, with copper slipping overnight before steadying, iron ore easing, and large diversified producers marked down accordingly.
Financials were the second heaviest drag, with major lenders sensitive to expectations of further tightening from the Reserve Bank of Australia. Long bond yields have climbed to levels not seen in many years, and the Australian benchmark is unusually sensitive to that move.
