The Australian sharemarket is facing an uncertain start to the week due to strong US jobs growth, which has increased expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike this month.

ASX 200 futures were down just 1 point at 9,002, indicating a broadly flat open. However, tensions between the US and Iran escalated over the weekend, adding uncertainty to Monday's session.

The strong US jobs report saw the economy add 162,000 jobs in August, nearly three times the consensus forecast of 56,000. The implied probability of a Federal Reserve rate rise in September increased to 60.4%, up from 49.4% a day earlier.
