Australian Stocks Edge Up on Gold Miners' Gains Despite Energy Sector Losses
Australian stocks edged up on Wednesday, despite losses in the energy sector that tempered gains.
The S&P/ASX 200 index rose 0.07% to 8,984.50 as of 0054 GMT, snapping a three-session losing streak.
Bullion strengthened after the US dollar and US Treasury yields eased, lifting gold miners like Northern Star Resources and Evolution Mining about 1.5% each.
The energy sector, however, weighed on the market, with BHP falling 1.7% and Woodside Energy sliding 2.8% after both went ex-dividend.
