Australian Stocks Rebound Modestly After $60 Billion Sell-Off
Australian stocks are still reeling from Thursday's sell-off, but managed to stage a modest rebound on Friday.
The S&P/ASX200 rose by midday, up 29 points or 0.34%, to 8,643.4, while the broader All Ordinaries gained 26.3 points, or 0.3%, to 8,820.7.
The rebound came despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and rising oil prices, which saw Brent crude top $US102 a barrel on reports of a US aircraft carrier deployment to the Middle East.
Market hopes that the Reserve Bank won't raise interest rates again in November may be keeping some investors optimistic, with RBA boss Michele Bullock indicating the bank isn't in a rush to continue lifting rates unless necessary.
