Bancomat Unveils Eur.bank Stablecoin Platform for Simplified Cross-Border Payments
Bancomat, an Italian company, is developing an infrastructure for providing services based on interoperable stablecoins. The project, called Eur.bank, aims to enable banks to offer traditional euros, the European Central Bank's (ECB) future digital euro, and a blockchain-based euro through a single platform.
The goal is to provide users with a choice of payment options, including cross-border payments, which are currently complex and time-consuming. Bancomat CEO Fabrizio Burlando explains that the company's role is to provide the technological and regulatory infrastructure for partner banks to issue and offer services based on interoperable stablecoins.
The system is designed to create an ecosystem with significant transaction volumes, making it a European standard. The EuroPA alliance, of which Bancomat is a member, aims to expand the European payments network in whatever form the single currency may take.
