Bank of Canada Defends Use of Replacement Workers Amid Labor Dispute

The Bank of Canada's decision to use replacement workers during a strike by security officers has been defended by Governor Tiff Macklem.

Last week, the Canada Industrial Relations Board issued a ruling stating that the central bank had contravened the Canada Labour Code in its hiring of contractors from Pinkerton Consulting & Investigations.

This is not the first time the Bank of Canada has been found to have violated labor laws, as earlier this month the board released a similar decision regarding the use of contractors from Garda Canada Security Corporation and the services of union members.

In response, Macklem wrote a letter to the president of the Canadian Labour Congress stating that the bank has never refused to comply with the orders of the board.
