Gold Terra Resource Corp. recently hosted Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem at its Yellowknife Projects in the Northwest Territories (NWT). The visit, which took place on September 23, 2026, aimed to provide Governor Macklem with a deeper understanding of the NWT economy and the potential of mining in the region. During the tour, Macklem explored Gold Terra's properties, including the historic Con Mine, which operated from 1938 to 2003 when gold prices were significantly lower at US$340 per ounce.
The discussion between Gold Terra representatives and Governor Macklem covered the economic opportunities associated with mineral exploration and mine development in the NWT. Key factors influencing investment and development decisions were highlighted, including infrastructure, energy, skilled labor, access to capital, permitting, and operational costs in remote jurisdictions. Gerald Panneton, Chairman and CEO of Gold Terra, expressed encouragement over the Bank of Canada's interest in understanding the role of mining in the NWT's economic future.
Gold Terra emphasized the importance of developing Canada's domestic mineral resources, particularly gold, as a strategic commodity. The company believes that redeveloping the Con Mine could create significant long-term economic opportunities for Yellowknife, Indigenous partners, the NWT, and Canada. The Yellowknife Project, encompassing 836 sq. km of land, is strategically located near vital infrastructure, including all-season roads, air transportation, and hydro-electric power.
Gold Terra is currently focusing its exploration efforts on the Campbell Shear and the CMO property claims, which are part of the Yellowknife greenstone belt. The company's goal is to re-establish Yellowknife as a premier gold mining district in Canada, with potential for substantial direct and indirect employment, support for local businesses, and contributions to government revenues.
