Bank of Canada Strike Nears 100 Days as Labour Leaders Accuse Central Bank of Breaking Law
The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is criticizing the Bank of Canada for using replacement workers during the ongoing strike, which has reached 93 days. The union claims that the central bank is breaking labour law by hiring contractors and non-union members to perform security duties.
In a statement, Alex Silas, national executive vice-president of PSAC, said that the union is asking the Bank of Canada to come back to the bargaining table and remove concessions. He added that it's 'concerning' how little the bank respects its security officers.
The Canada Industrial Relations Board has ruled twice that the Bank of Canada contravened the Canada Labour Code by using replacement workers, but the central bank claims to have complied with these orders.
