Bank of Canada Unveils New $20 Bill Featuring King Charles
The Bank of Canada is set to unveil its new $20 bill, featuring an image of King Charles. This marks the first time Charles has been featured on a Canadian paper currency, replacing the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The decision to feature King Charles was made by the government of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who directed the Bank of Canada to include the monarch in its next redesign process. The Royal Canadian Mint began producing coins featuring King Charles in 2023.
The new bill is a result of this ongoing process, with Charles's image taking over from his mother's after her passing in September 2022. Queen Elizabeth II had reigned for 70 years before her death at the age of 96.
