Bank of Canada Unveils New $20 Bill with King Charles Portrait
The Bank of Canada has unveiled a new $20 bill featuring King Charles on its front. This marks the first time a Canadian bank note has displayed a new monarch in over 70 years, since Queen Elizabeth II's image was first introduced in 1935 as a young princess.
Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem described the unveiling as historic and noted that the bill includes security technologies never before used on a Canadian bank note. The bill is made of polymer, predominantly green, and oriented vertically, with King Charles centered on the front.
The new $20 bill also features a purple security stripe with elements that spin, transform, and pulse when the note is moved, making it easy to verify and difficult to counterfeit.
