Bank of England Director Criticized for Downplaying Hamas Violence

Paul Nowak, the newly appointed non-executive director of the Bank of England, has been criticized for his past comments on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In a tweet from May 2018, Nowak referred to Hamas terrorists as 'unarmed demonstrators' who were killed by Israel during protests in Gaza.

The incident occurred on May 14, 2018, and resulted in the deaths of 62 Palestinians. Initially, there was controversy surrounding the killings, with many regarding them as unjustified.

Nowak's comments were made at a time when Hamas had announced that the majority of those killed during the protests were its members. His appointment to the Bank of England's board was made by Chancellor John Healey earlier this month.
