Bank of England Expands into New Leeds Office
The Bank of England is expanding its presence in Leeds by opening a new office at Capitol House in Bond Court. This move comes as part of the bank's long-term commitment to the city and aims to increase its workforce from around 300 staff to over 500 by 2027. The new site will eventually replace the current office at Yorkshire House, with the move expected to take place in late 2028.
Bank governor Andrew Bailey hailed the new office as an 'important milestone', saying it would help the bank better reflect and represent the people and businesses it serves. He added that the exceptional talent and expertise found in Leeds and the wider region are valued assets to the bank.
The expansion of the Bank's presence in Leeds is part of a broader overhaul of its office footprint, which includes refurbishing its historic Threadneedle Street HQ and reportedly shutting down the nearby Moorgate site. The refurbishment at Threadneedle Street is designed to allow consolidation of the bank's property footprint in London by end-2028.
