Bank of England Hints at Rate Hike as Inflation Looms
The Bank of England held interest rates steady on Thursday but hinted that a hike could come soon to combat inflationary pressures.
The decision was widely anticipated, with six members of the Monetary Policy Committee voting to keep rates unchanged and three backing a quarter-point increase to 4%.
Bank Governor Andrew Bailey noted that while global energy costs have had a limited impact on UK price and wage setting so far, their persistence will increase inflation's influence and make rate hikes more likely.
The Bank of England expects inflation to rise to around 4% in the first quarter of next year from the current 3.1%, driven by another energy bill hike for households.
