Bank of England Holds Interest Rates Amid Renewed Inflation Concerns
The Bank of England has kept interest rates at 3.75%, providing some relief to mortgage borrowers who had been bracing themselves for an increase in borrowing costs due to renewed inflationary pressures.
The decision comes against a backdrop of rising energy prices and geopolitical tensions, which have sparked concerns over the outlook for UK inflation.
Ben Nichols, CEO of RAW Capital Partners, commented that interest rate uncertainty has spiked in recent weeks, with the re-escalation of conflict in the Middle East, increasing energy prices, and inflation fears contributing to a 'very turbulent backdrop' for the Bank's meeting.
Nichols noted that there remains a chance that the base rate will rise back to 4% by the end of the year, and warned that all eyes will now turn to the Autumn Budget on October 28 and the Bank's next interest rate decision on November 5.
