Bank of England Holds Interest Rates Steady Amid Energy Price Pressures
The Bank of England (BoE) kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.75% in September, despite rising energy prices and inflation risks.
In a 6-3 vote, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) maintained the current rate, with three members voting for a 0.25-percentage-point increase to 4%. The prolonged conflict in the Middle East has driven up crude and refined energy prices since the previous meeting, with energy costs remaining volatile and above pre-conflict levels.
The UK consumer price inflation rose to 3.1% in August, and is expected to increase further over the coming quarters. The BoE stated that monetary policy would continue to focus on bringing inflation sustainably back to its 2% target as the economy adjusts to the energy shock.
