Bank of England Holds Key Rate Steady at 3.75% Amid Rising Energy Prices

The Bank of England has decided to maintain its key interest rate at 3.75%, marking the lowest level since June 2023, despite a recent increase in energy prices.

The Monetary Policy Committee, led by Governor Andrew Bailey, voted 6-3 to keep the bank rate unchanged, with members Catherine Mann, Megan Greene, and Huw Pill dissenting in favor of a quarter-point hike. They believed that a proactive increase in the bank rate would help anchor inflation expectations.

The decision was in line with economists' expectations, but energy prices continue to pose an inflation risk, which may lead to a rate hike in November.
