Bank of England Holds Rates Amid Rising Inflation Expectations
The Bank of England has maintained its benchmark interest rate at 3.75% for the sixth consecutive time, with three members still voting for an immediate increase to 4%. The decision comes as inflation rose to 3.1% in August, up from 2.9% the previous month.
The central bank now expects inflation to climb further, potentially exceeding 4% in early 2027. This development has lenders paying close attention to the situation, with rate changes likely to impact pricing over the coming weeks.
Rachel Geddes, strategic lender relationship director at Mortgage Advice Bureau, emphasizes the importance of clear communication during this period. 'Brokers can't have honest conversations with clients if they're only finding out about a rate change with short notice,' she says.
