Bank of England Holds Rates as Inflation Concerns Persist
The Bank of England has maintained its interest rate at 3.75% for the fifth consecutive meeting, despite concerns over ongoing inflation and geopolitical tensions.
According to Governor Andrew Bailey, inflation has fallen faster than anticipated but is expected to rise again later this year due to high and volatile energy prices caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
The decision was not unanimous, with three members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voting for an increase. The current inflation rate stands at 2.6%, above the Bank's 2% target.
Hina Bhudia, Partner at Knight Frank Finance, noted that the MPC has turned 'a little more hawkish' since the previous meeting, but mortgage lenders have already repriced higher to account for this.
