Bank of England Holds Rates Steady Amid Global Divergence
The Bank of England has kept interest rates unchanged at 3.75%, but warned that inflation could reach 4% by early next year due to rising energy costs.
The Monetary Policy Committee voted 6-3 to leave the Bank Rate as is, despite surging energy prices and increasing UK inflation.
Andrew Bailey, the Bank's governor, said that 'so far higher global energy costs have had a limited effect on price and wage setting in the UK', but warned that the impact will be bigger if this volatility persists.
The Bank highlighted the risk of continued fighting in the Middle East transmitting higher energy prices into household costs, wages, and broader inflation.
