Bank of England Keeps Rates Steady Amid Ongoing Energy Price Pressures

The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has decided to maintain the Bank Rate at 3.75% in its September meeting. The decision comes amidst concerns about inflation, which rose to 3.1% in August, up from earlier summer readings.

The MPC stated that the conflict in the Middle East remains a dominant source of uncertainty for the inflation outlook, contributing to higher crude oil and refined energy prices. While monetary policy cannot directly influence global energy prices, the Committee emphasized that it will be set to ensure inflation returns sustainably to the 2% target as the economy adjusts to the energy shock.

The MPC noted that UK economic activity has been slightly stronger than expected in recent months, but the outlook remains uncertain. The evolution of growth will depend on the scale and persistence of the energy shock and its effects on households and businesses.
