Bank of England Launches $1 Billion Dollar Bond for Foreign Reserves Financing
The Bank of England has launched its second foreign reserves financing operation of 2026 under its established timetable. The new 5-year U.S. dollar eurobond carries a 4.875% annual coupon and matures on October 15, 2031.
The bond was issued to finance the bank's foreign currency reserves, which are separate from the UK government's own foreign exchange reserves. The Bank manages these reserves in support of its policy objectives and funds them through planned market access rather than ad hoc issuance.
This approach supports predictability for investors and reinforces the Bank's stated aim of regular and transparent funding activity. The transaction is the second 2026 operation under the Bank's Debt Issuance Programme, indicating a continued commitment to predictable market access.
