Bank of England Opens Up Its Historic Building for Rare Tours
The Bank of England is set to host two special events in October, giving visitors a rare glimpse inside its historic building.
The first event, on October 6th, will focus on Boris Anrep's mosaics, which adorn the ground floor of the bank. These vibrant and symbolic works took over a decade to complete and are considered a masterpiece of craftsmanship.
Jennifer Adam, Curator at the Bank of England Museum, will lead a talk and Q&A session about the mosaics, followed by an exclusive tour for attendees.
The second event, on October 7th, will explore the classical mythology that underpins the bank's sculptural decoration. Dr Monica Walker's 'Museum Nerd Time' series will be used as a basis for the lecture, which will examine the classical sources behind these works and consider why mythology remained a powerful tool for expressing institutional identity in nineteenth and twentieth-century Britain.
