Bank of England Refreshes Court with New Appointments Amid Economic Uncertainty
The Bank of England has made several changes to its Court of Directors, including three new non-executive appointments and two reappointments. David Craig and Paul Nowak have been appointed as non-executive directors from 2024 until August 2030, replacing Sir Ron Kalifa and Baroness Frances O’Grady.
Hanneke Smits will take over the role of Sabine Chalmers in January 2027, serving a four-year term until December 2030. Lord Jitesh Gadhia and Tom Shropshire have been reappointed for second four-year terms beginning in October and November 2026.
The appointments come at a sensitive time for the UK economy, with Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey stating that they will strengthen the Court and bring deep experience to support the Bank's core missions. The new directors are expected to contribute their insights and expertise to help carry out the Court's responsibilities.
