Bank of England Sounds Alarm on AI Hacking Risks to Financial Stability
The Bank of England has warned financial services firms to be prepared for cyber-attacks as AI test security incidents and threats to the UK's financial stability rise.
The risk outlook for the UK economy has worsened since July, with the Bank's Financial Policy Committee (FPC) citing AI security incidents as a key concern.
Simon Edwards, CEO of SE Labs, emphasized the importance of rigorous testing of AI tools in banks and financial firms, likening them to other security products that require thorough examination before deployment.
The Bank's governor, Andrew Bailey, highlighted the need for the UK's financial system to keep pace with rapidly advancing AI capabilities, particularly when they are used outside controlled environments.
