Bank of England Sounds Alarm on Rising Financial Risks and AI Concerns
The Bank of England has warned that the risk of interconnected vulnerabilities in the financial system materializing is increasing.
This comes as oil and gas prices rise, leading to higher bond yields since 2008, according to the Financial Policy Committee.
The committee maintained its Countercyclical Capital Buffer at 2%, but emphasized that despite resilience in the financial system and equity markets so far, a sharp adjustment persists.
BoE Governor Andrew Bailey expressed concerns about AI risks, highlighting the need for rigorous model testing before deployment. He stated that regulation may emerge over time, but understanding, testing, and intervention must come first.
