Bank of England Warns of Market Shocks from AI Boom
The Bank of England governor, Andrew Bailey, has warned that the AI boom could trigger market shocks. He said the central bank is watching the massive investments in AI 'very carefully' and cautioned that not everyone will reap the benefits.
The UK needs to be prepared for potential financial market shocks as a result of the huge amounts of money being invested in AI, Bailey said. The governor stated that the technology has 'great potential to strengthen growth in our economies,' but also brings substantial risks.
Bailey pointed out that some AI companies are currently valued at multi-trillion dollar businesses due to investor expectations of large profits. He warned that not everyone will be a winner, citing Google's rise to market leader and the eventual decline of Netscape as an example.
