Bank of England's Mann Warns of Embedded High Inflation in UK
Bank of England policymaker Catherine Mann has warned that high inflation has become deeply entrenched in the UK economy. Speaking at a conference hosted by economic advisors TS Lombard, Mann noted that inflation has remained well above the central bank's 2% target since she took her position. She expressed particular concern that inflation could reach 4% by the end of the year, a critical period for wage negotiations between employers and workers, which could further solidify rising prices.
Mann has been a vocal advocate for raising interest rates, recently voting for a quarter-point increase to 4%. This stance has placed her in the minority on the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee. Her remarks highlight the ongoing challenges the UK faces in managing inflation, which continues to outpace the central bank's targets.
