Bank of France Weighs XRP as Possible Platform for Digital Euro
The Bank of France's possible role in issuing the Digital Euro has sparked renewed interest in XRP. According to a report by CPA Australia, the Bank of France openly discussed Ripple/XRP as a possible platform for Europe's central digital currency back in 2020.
The report highlighted XRP's trust among banks and its permissioned network structure, which set it apart from public, permissionless blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Australian law firm Piper Alderman noted that 80% of central banks worldwide were engaging in CBDC-related research and cited Ripple's proposal as an example.
Ripple had piloted a private version of the XRP Ledger to provide central banks with a secure, controlled, and flexible solution for issuing and managing digital currencies. While no confirmation exists that XRP or the XRP Ledger was chosen or used for the Digital Euro, the discussion remains relevant as XRP's appeal in CBDC discussions is not an accident.
