Bank of Japan Faces Credibility Crisis Amid Yen Weakness
The Japanese yen has continued to weaken against the US dollar in recent trading sessions, with the USD/JPY exchange rate reaching near 157.
This decline is largely attributed to market skepticism regarding the Bank of Japan's (BOJ) commitment to monetary tightening, with some analysts warning that policy delays may undermine both yen stability and economic growth prospects.
Thu Lan Nguyen, an analyst at Commerzbank, emphasized that the BOJ must address its credibility risk by taking concrete actions, rather than relying solely on verbal threats of intervention or exchange rate checks.
According to Nguyen, 'jawboning' strategies may provide temporary stability in the short term but are insufficient for long-term credibility.
