Bank of Japan Hikes Interest Rate to 1.25% Amid Global Economic Pressures
The Bank of Japan has raised its benchmark interest rate to 1.25% from 1.0%, marking a significant move in monetary policy after decades of keeping rates near or below zero.
This decision, announced on September 18th, comes as the global economy continues to navigate inflationary pressures and geopolitical uncertainties.
Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda noted that the Japanese economy is recovering gradually, with inflation close to the targeted 2% rate. However, he emphasized that more time is needed to assess whether price increases remain stable and to monitor wage growth and other risk factors.
