Basel Tests Combined Public Transport and Bike-Share Subscriptions in Swiss Pilot
In north-west Switzerland, Basel has launched a pilot project called 'U-Two' that combines public transport and bike-share subscriptions. Existing holders of the Tarifverbund Nordwestschweiz (TNW) U-Abo or the nationwide GA travelcard can buy 120 minutes of bike-share use per month for five Swiss francs.
The trial, which runs from September 14 to November 30, is open to people who live or regularly stay in the TNW area and hold a valid U-Abo or GA. The 120-minute credit corresponds to roughly four half-hour rides a month, enough to cover last-mile legs on either side of a train or tram journey.
The project aims to treat bike-sharing and public transport as part of an overall transport system that gets people to their destination more flexibly and faster. The FHNW will analyse participants' mobility and usage patterns during the trial, with results due in February 2027.
