Baume & Mercier Sees Strong Potential in Indian Market Amid Currency Challenges
Swiss luxury watchmaker Baume & Mercier is planning significant investments in India due to the country's growing market and the India-EFTA trade pact, according to CEO Michael Guenoun.
Guenoun stated that despite currency challenges, such as a weaker rupee and stronger Swiss franc, there is strong long-term potential for growth in the Indian market. He believes it is the right time to invest in India, with the reduction in tariffs under the free trade agreement between India and Switzerland expected to provide a stronger base for Swiss watchmakers like Baume & Mercier to expand.
Between January and August 2026, Swiss watch exports to India grew 31.7% year-on-year, according to Guenoun. He described India as one of the markets with the strongest expansion potential for Baume & Mercier, particularly as China and parts of Asia remain challenging.
