Bell Auctions Fall Sale Showcases Canadian Numismatic History

The upcoming fall sale by Geoffrey Bell Auctions will feature a diverse collection of Canadian numismatic items, including medals, coins, tokens, and paper money.

Among the highlights is a silver medal commemorating the British conquest of Montreal in 1760, which is estimated to sell for $15,000-$20,000. The medal features imagery connected to the British victory over New France during the Seven Years' War.

A group of three Royal Canadian Mint 'Colour Technology' test tokens from 2015 will also be up for auction. These tokens were produced for the Currency Conference in Vancouver and feature designs related to Canada's flag, poppy, and fish. They are estimated to sell for $2,500-$3,500.

Paper money forms a significant portion of the sale, with several rare notes from chartered banks and the Bank of Canada being auctioned off. One notable item is a 1971 Bank of Canada $10 'Good Over' variety, which has only seven examples reported on the registry. This note is estimated to sell for $10,000-$12,500.

Two Bank of Hamilton $10 notes from the Bob Graham Collection are also expected to draw significant interest. A 1904 issue and a 1922 50th-anniversary issue, both of which are Charlton plate notes, carry estimates of $20,000-$30,000 each.
