Bessent Calls on Tokyo to Strengthen Yen Amid Trump Concern
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called on Japan to strengthen its currency amid concerns over the weak Japanese yen, which could fuel inflation in Japan and push US Treasury yields higher.
In an online meeting with Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama, Bessent expressed concern over the yen's weakness, reiterating that an undervalued yen is a problem.
Katayama suggested there may have been some 'misunderstanding' in the market and that the trend could reverse, expecting excessive yen selling to ease.
